Why Great Lakes Ranch?

The following history of commitment to the alpaca and llama industry distinguishes Great Lakes Ranch as one of the nation’s few full time alpaca and llama breeders in the nation, for over 25 years, since 1981.

1981 Great Lakes Ranch purchased first llama
1982 Attended first Llama Conference
1982-3 Participated in extensive field research with Iowa State University on the guanaco in southern Chile and Tierra Del Fuego
1984 Purchased first alpaca and won first Grand Champion Award
1984 Brad began the first of two consecutive terms on the International Llama Association Board of Directors
1986 Brad was named chairman of the International Llama Association Show Committee
1991 Brad was named “One of the Top Ten Most Influential Men in the Llama Industry” by Llamas Magazine (June 1991)
1995 Helped to organize and found the Great Lakes Alpaca Association
1996 Selected suri alpacas to be imported and brought home to Michigan
1997-8 Participated in creating and launching the Suri Network and produced the Suri Network Brochure
2001 Co-hosted the Great Lakes Classic Alpaca Sale which posted the 2nd highest average sale of the year
2002

Sold highest selling female alpaca at auction of the year and won National AOBA Grey Female Color Championship

2003

Won AAA Futurity Grey Male Reserve Color Championship

2004

Won AAA Futurity Grey Male Reserve Color Championship, MAPACA Grey Male Color Championship, AOBA Nationals Grey Male Reserve Color Championship and OABA Grey Male Reserve Color Championship and had the highest selling male suri at the AAA Futurity Sale

2005

Won AAA Futurity Grey Female Color Championship, AAA Futurity Grey Female Reserve Championship, MAPACA Grey Male Color Championship, MAPACA Grey Female Reserve Championship AOBA Nationals Grey Male Reserve Color Championship and broke world record for highest selling suri female at auction

2006 Won AAA Futurity Black Male Color Championship, MAPACA Black Male Reserve Color Championship, MAPACA Get of Sire, AOBA Nationals Black Male Reserve Color Championship, and OABA Grey Female Color Championship
